NASH Clinical Trials in Columbus

Aventiv Research is currently participating in the NASH Ionis study at our Columbus, Ohio location. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a term that refers to deposits of fat in the liver which may progress to a more aggressive form of the disease with accumulation of fat associated with inflammation called hepatitis (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH). Over time scar tissue forms, which eventually progresses to cirrhosis of the liver, malfunction of the liver, and in some cases liver cancer; none of which are associated with the excessive intake of alcoholic beverages.

People who develop NASH often have additional predisposing conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, but the exact biochemical events that trigger and maintain the progression are not well known. Many people in the early stages of disease do not have significant symptoms and therefore do not know that they have it.  Advances in drug therapy are key to treating this disease at its early stages and preventing further liver damage.
