Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccine Trials in Columbus

Aventiv Research is currently participating in an investigational Meningococcal Meningitis adolescent vaccine study at our Columbus, Ohio location. Meningococcal meningitis is a rare but serious bacterial infection. Anyone can get infected with the meningococcal meningitis germ, but it is most common in adolescents and infants. It causes the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord to become inflamed and infected. The infection can lead to death or serious complications such as loss of limbs, severe brain damage, or hearing loss. Doctors treat meningococcal disease with antibiotics, but quick medical attention is extremely important. Keeping up to date with recommended vaccines is the best defense against meningococcal disease.

Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccine Study

Bexsero is a vaccine that helps to protect against the meningococcal meningitis B germ. Bexsero is approved in many European countries starting at age of 2 months. In the US it is already approved by the FDA for people aged 10 through 25 years.

Menveo is a vaccine that helps protect against meningococcal meningitis A, C, W and Y germs. Menveo is approved in many European countries starting at age of 2 years. In the US, it is approved by the FDA for people aged 2 months through 55 years.

This study will help us learn if the study vaccine Bexsero when given together with Menveo study vaccine, is safe, works well, and helps protect against different kinds of the meningococcal meningitis germs of A, B, C, W and Y types. We will also study the two study vaccines when given separately in order to compare them. The study will look at this in adolescents and adults aged 16 to 18 years. Participants must have the informed consent of parent(s) or legal guardian.

We are specifically looking for volunteers who are:

  • Adolescents 16-18 years of age
  • Healthy participants who are determined so by medical history and physical examination for inclusion in the study

As a part of our ongoing commitment to protect your health and safety, we’re practicing enhanced safety measures at our clinical research sites.
