Aventiv Research offers clinical trials in Columbus on meningococcal disease, or meningitis, to discover advances in medical knowledge and prevention of the disease. Typically, young adults aged 18-25 receive a vaccine for meningitis before going into college and living in a dorm.

What is the Purpose of Clinical Trials for Meningitis?

Meningitis is a serious illness, and is caused by specific types of bacteria that can make adolescents and young adults incredibly sick. The disease causes the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord to become inflamed and swollen. It spreads via coughing, sneezing, kissing, or even sharing a beverage with someone who has the bacteria.

There are different types of meningococcal disease; the 5 main types are A, B, C, W, and Y. There are specific vaccines for types A, C, W, and Y, and separate vaccines for type B. As of right now, there is no single vaccine that prevents all types of meningitis, which is why the MEMENTO™ 057 trial was created.

The MEMENTO™ 057 trial was designed to help doctors understand if the investigational vaccine for MenABCWY, as a single vaccine, works the same and is as safe as giving the components as two separate vaccines Trumenba (MnB) and Menveo (MenACWY-CRM). The trial will also help doctors learn whether a 2-shot series of Trumenba works and is safe.

What are the Benefits of Enrolling in a Meningitis Clinical Trial?

There are several benefits associated with participating in meningitis clinical trial:

  • MEMENTO™ 057 provides patients with the meningitis vaccine they would normally receive from their family doctor, for free
  • MEMENTO™ 057 pays for study-related costs, for example, transportation, meals, parking lot fees, gasoline, or similar expenses (but does not pay participants to take part)

In addition, you’ll be providing valuable research for doctors studying the disease and developing improvements for our current vaccinations.
